Operation Swallow has begun
WA Police will be using a number of public awareness strategies to inform the public how tehy can help police and Crime Stoppers in the fight against car theft and associated crimes.
Since July 2011 there has been a 27% increase in motor vehicle theft in the metropolitan area which equates to over 5000 motor vehicles. It is well known tht many of these vehicles are then used in subsequent offences such as stealing offences, robberies and other crimes.
The aim of the media campaign, which will include radio, online and print advertising will be to raise awareness of such crimes, and to educate teh public on what they can do to help police prevent the prevalence of such criminal activity.
This campaign will complement a police operation, Operation Swallow, which is targeting such crime. Crime Stoppers are upping rewards for information from the public during Operation Swallow to $1000 so it's odds-on someone will ring Crime Stoppers about people or crimes they know of.
